Bikaner

Bikaner - The Camel City of Rajasthan

Where Desert Royalty Meets Timeless Heritage

Located in the heart of the Thar Desert, Bikaner is a vibrant and regal city steeped in desert charm, architectural grandeur, and camel heritage. Known as “The Camel City”, Bikaner is one of Rajasthan’s most culturally rich yet underrated destinations, offering a mix of magnificent forts, ornate havelis, sacred temples, and golden sand dunes.

A Glimpse into History

Bikaner was founded in 1488 by Rao Bika, a Rathore prince and son of the founder of Jodhpur. Unlike other desert cities, Bikaner developed into a prosperous kingdom thanks to its strategic location on the ancient trade routes between Gujarat and Central Asia. The city flourished under royal patronage, resulting in grand palaces, temples, and the iconic Junagarh Fort—a rare fort not built on a hill. Bikaner also became a center of camel breeding and remains home to the Indian Camel Corps to this day.
